This species grows at altitudes of up to 1600m (5000ft), making it another valuable subject for low-light situations in warm temperate and subtropical areas. It will tolerate light frosts. Geonoma schottiana has a slender, solitary or clustering stem that can reach up to 4m (13ft) tall. The arching leaves bear numerous velvety green, narrow and sickle-shaped leaflets.
