Very rare species

A large, beautiful palm known only from a single, remote site in the very south of Madagascar where it grows in moist forest at mid elevation. The Tavilo Palm produces a prominently ringed, very stout trunk to 40 cm (16 in) in diameter and to 12 m (40 ft) tall, which supports a large crown of densely plumose, ascending leaves, gracefully arching at the tip. We think this species is a fantastic new introduction to cultivation in tropical, subtropical, and some warm temperate climates, and could become very popular in the future. There is only a very limited amount of seeds available.
