Quantity : 05 Seeds

Cempedak (Artocarpus integer) is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to the lush rainforests of Southeast Asia. Closely related to jackfruit, it is treasured not only for its highly aromatic, golden-yellow fruit but also for its resilient timber, ecological value, and traditional uses. With the right climate and care, you can cultivate this exotic gem in your own tropical garden or food forest.

🌟 Key Features & Benefits
✅ Delicious & Aromatic Fruits
Cempedak fruit offers a rich, sweet flavor—a cross between mango and durian—with soft pulp ideal for eating fresh, frying in batter, or using in desserts and soups.

✅ Nutrient-Rich Seeds & Edible Leaves
The seeds are edible when roasted or boiled, with a pleasantly nutty flavor. Young leaves are also used as a green vegetable in traditional Southeast Asian dishes.

✅ Valuable Hardwood Timber
Known locally as keledang, the wood is golden-brown, termite-resistant, and used in construction, boat-building, furniture, and coffins—rivaling teak in strength and durability.

✅ Ecological Restoration
An ideal species for agroforestry and reforestation, Cempedak helps restore degraded lands and improves biodiversity in tropical regions.

✅ Cultural Significance
The bark produces strong fibers for rope, heartwood yields a yellow dye used in Buddhist monk robes, and the resin is occasionally used for varnish or lime processing.

🌱 Cultivation & Growing Conditions
Climate: Thrives in humid, tropical regions (22–38°C) with annual rainfall between 1,250–4,500 mm. Tolerates a wider range from 16–47°C.

Soil: Prefers deep, fertile, slightly acidic soils (pH 4.5–6.5).
Water: Can tolerate occasional flooding and high water tables.
Sunlight: Partial shade for young seedlings, with increased sun as the tree matures.

🌸 Flowering & Fruiting
Cempedak trees are prolific fruiters.

Female flowers grow directly on the trunk (cauliflory), while

Male flowers grow on outer branches.
Pollination is insect-driven despite the lack of nectar. Trees grown from seeds typically fruit within 3–6 years, while grafted trees can fruit in as little as 2–4 years.

🌿 Propagation
Seeds: Best germinated fresh at 24–27°C with a success rate up to 75%.
Other methods: Air layering and root cuttings also effective for propagation.
